"Does Marriage Survive Retirement?"

Internationalen Begegnungszentrum
Amalienstr. 38
80799 München

(U-Bahn Haltestelle: Üniversität)

Talk and Drinks

In England and Wales the overall divorce rate has gone down by 11%. However in the last decade, for people approaching retirement age and those already retired it has gone up by over 4%. What is the reason for this and is the experience in England and Wales significantly different from the German experience?

Susan Garnett is a divorce lawyer and an experienced barrister from London with some thirty years of professional experience. She qualified and has worked in the field of divorce, the financial consequences of it and the law relating to children and will offer us her views on the legal side of this every day problem and the law pertaining to it in England and Germany.
She will discuss the reasons for this change in divorce statistics. Is it money or the thought of having a partner home for breakfast, lunch and tea or do men and women view retirement differently? What makes a person decide to divorce after a long marriage? Do the liberal financial arrangements for women in England and Wales make them less keen on marriage in retirement?
The answers to such questions provide fascinating insights into social aspects of the law in England and Germany.

As usual, there will be time for discussion and drinks after the event.
